Women’s Water Polo: Former Viking standouts Morrison and Baumler sign letters of intent
Former Long Beach City College aquatics standouts Kimmy Morrison and Jamie Baumler have recently signed national letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions.
Former Long Beach City College aquatics standouts Kimmy Morrison and Jamie Baumler have recently signed national letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions. Morrison is heading south to San Diego State University, while Baumler will stay in the area to attend Azusa Pacific University.
Morrison was a member of the 2008 and 2009 women's water polo team as well as the swimming & diving squad. As a sophomore in 2009, Morrison was earned All-American as well as All-State honors. She was also named the Southern California and South Coast Conference Player of the Year.
Her freshman season, Morrison earned All-American, All-State, as well as first-team All-Southern California and All-SCC accolades.
San Diego State competes at the NCAA Division I level and in water polo, is a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). Morrison, a graduate of Newport Harbor High School, is set to attend this spring and plans to major in political science.
Baumler was a standout with the Vikings during the state championship 2006 and 2007 water polo seasons as well as the 2007 and 2008 swimming seasons. Baumler was a rare two-sport All-American in both water polo (2007) and swimming (2008) during the same school year.
As a sophomore in water polo, she was named All-American as well as first-team All-Southern California and All-South Coast Conference.
In swimming, Baumler earned All-America honors in the 100-yard freestyle and was a member of the 200, 400, and 800-yard freestyle relay teams that also achieved All-America status.
Azusa Pacific (Azusa, Calif.) competes at the NAIA level and in a member of the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC). Baumler, a Lakewood High School graduate, will also begin classes this spring and plans to major in physical education.
