Women’s Tennis: Long Beach defeated by Fullerton in season opener

The Long Beach City College women's tennis team opened the 2011 season with a 9-0 non-conference loss to visiting Fullerton College on Thursday at LBCC.

With six of its seven members on the 2011 squad freshman, the Vikings will be short on experience this season.

LBCC's best chance at a win came at No. 3 doubles. The team of freshmen Jalysa Scales (Gardena HS) and Evelyn Movataya (Wilson HS) scored the most points on the day for Long Beach, but came up short in an 8-4 loss to Fullerton's Brianna Bordette and Lauren Holcombe.

The Long Beach women return to action next Thursday (Feb. 10) at 2 p.m. when it hosts Palomar College in a non-conference match.
