Women’s Soccer: Long Beach closes SCC schedule with 6-0 win over Compton

The Long Beach City College women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting El Camino College Compton Center on Friday in the Vikings' final conference game of the season.
The win snapped Long Beach's four-game losing streak and improved the Vikings to 9-9-3 overall and 7-6-1 in conference play as they look forward to the postseason.
Six different Vikings scored in the rout over Compton (3-15, 0-13 SCC). Long Beach led 2-0 after the first half with goals from freshmen Cristina Landavazo (7th minute) and Denise Martinez (38th).
Long Beach poured it on with four second-half scores. Freshman Elizabeth Heckmuller opened it up with a goal in the 62nd and sophomore Lauren Ingram came back down the field in the 63rd with a shot she nailed from 20 yards out.
Sophomore goalie Sara Thatcher was replaced by sophomore Mary Shank in the net in the 63rd minute and moments later was fouled in the Compton penalty box and was awarded a penalty kick. She placed her PK shot to the lower left corner past Compton goalie Jessica Alvarez to put LBCC up 5-0.
Freshman Dennis Chaidez closed the scoring with her header goal in the 81st minute.
Thatcher (62 minutes) and Shank (28 minutes) combined for LBCC's fifth shutout of the season. Shank posted one save as Compton managed just three shots in the contest.
The Vikings should receive a spot into the Southern California playoffs. LBCC will learn its playoff fate at the Southern California postseason coaches meeting on Tuesday (Nov. 16) at Fullerton College. First-round playoff games are scheduled for November 20.
