Women’s Soccer: Last-minute goal gives Long Beach 2-1 win over Mt. SAC

The win improved Long Beach to 5-5-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the SCC.
Long Beach got on the board first in the contest. In the 27th minute, freshman forward Camila Veron broke free and dribbled downfield 20 yards before placing her shot past Mt. SAC goalie Diana Zambrano to put the Vikings up 1-0.
Mt. SAC put together a scoring run of its own to post the equalizer in the 52nd minute. Christina Ascencio sent a cross pass from the right side that Stephanie Heron was able to head in by LBCC goalie Sara Thatcher to make the score 1-1.
The contest appeared to be on its way to a draw, but Ingram intercepted an attempted Mt. SAC clearing pass. She dribbled through the Mounties' offside trap and booted the ball by second-half goalie Loren Cerafice to send the Vikings to the win.
Thatcher posted five saves in goal for Long Beach.
Zambrano made one save, while Cerafice was credited with two saves for Mt. SAC (3-7-2, 2-2-2 SCC).
The Long Beach women return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 19) when it travels to El Camino College – Compton Center for a 2 p.m. conference game.
