Men’s Water Polo: Long Beach cruises to big SCC win over L.A. Trade Tech

The No. 3 state-ranked Viking men won by a final score of 24-5 while the No. 2 state-ranked LBCC women earned a 19-1 victory. Head coach Chris Oeding was able to play his reserves for a majority of both contests.
In the men's game, Long Beach led 9-0 after the first quarter and was up 11-0 midway in the second before the Vikings finally allowed a goal.
Ten different Vikings scored in the contest. Freshman Tony Frens scored three of his game-high five goals in the first, while freshman Max Vincent posted two of his four goals in the opening period as well.
Freshman goalie Miles Nicolau totaled seven saves for the Vikings in the first half. He then came out of the net to score three goals in the second half. Freshman Nicolas Urey posted three goals, while freshmen Tristan Winterhalter and David An both had two goals each.
Victor Arias led L.A. Trade Tech (0-2 overall, 0-2 SCC) with three goals.
The win improved the Long Beach men to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Viking men have this weekend off, but return to action on Oct. 8-9 when they will compete at the Citrus College tournament.
In women's action, LBCC overwhelmed an inexperienced Trade Tech squad and won by the 18-goal margin.
Long Beach led 7-0 after the first quarter and eventually opened the game with nine unanswered goals.
Eight of LBCC's nine field players scored in the contest, with freshman Christine Meier leading the way with four goals. Freshmen Lauren Sweet and Mackenzie Woolvett both added three goals.
Freshman Lindsay Smith had an easy time in goal and posted two saves.
Nallely Reyes scored the lone goal for Trade Tech (0-3 overall, 0-3 SCC) with 2:45 to go in the second quarter.
With the win, the LBCC women remain undefeated and improved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in SCC play. The Long Beach women return to action this weekend (Oct. 1-2) when they will travel north to compete at the Cuesta College tournament.
