Men’s Soccer: Late Rio Hondo goal steals win from Long Beach

The Long Beach City College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against visiting Rio Hondo College in a non-conference game at LBCC on Tuesday.

A late goal by Rio Hondo in the 90th minute turned an apparent LBCC win into a tie with the Roadrunners.

After a scoreless first half, the Vikings finally got on the board in the 51st minute.

Freshman forward Jessie Aguirre took a pass from freshman midfielder Ricard Huezo and deposited it in goal for the Long Beach lone score.

The goal held up nearly till the end. But in added injury time, Rio Hondo was able to push across the equalizing goal. Midfielder Paudillo Maurillo headed in the pass from the left side just moments before the final whistle to tie the contest.

The tie moved LBCC's record to 2-1-2 overall, while Rio Hondo remains unbeaten at 8-0-1.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Sept 17) when it travels to San Bernardino Valley College for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
