Freshman forward Jesse Aguirre scored a pair of goals to lead the Long Beach City College men's soccer team to a 3-2 non-conference win over visiting Cuyamaca College on Tuesday in its 2010 home opener.
The win kept the Vikings unbeaten with a 2-0-1 overall record.
Aguirre gave LBCC an early lead with his first goal in the fourth minute with the assist from freshman Willie Mejia.
The score would remain 1-0 all the way until the 59th minute when Cuyamaca's Dominic Del Rio scored the first of his two penalty kick goals.
Long Beach sophomore Jordan Urbany finally broke the tie in the 73rd minute. He hooked a one-time shot from 25 yards out past a diving Cuyamaca goalie into the lower left corner for the impressive goal.
Aguirre gave the Vikings a much-needed two-goal advantage with his score in the 79th minute off a pass from sophomore Esron Manzanarez from the far right corner.
But Cuyamaca made things interesting after another PK goal by Del Rio in the 87th minute. The Coyotes then nearly tied it in the 89th, but LBCC goalie Jorge Becerra stopped a point-blank one-on-one shot from Cuyamaca's Francisco Flores just moments before the final whistle.
Beccera closed the match with seven saves for LBCC.
Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Sept. 10) when it hosts San Diego City College in a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
