Athletics: LBCC's Aguirre (soccer), Meier (water polo) named honorable mention state athlete of the month
Long Beach City College freshman forward Jessie Aguirre of the men’s soccer team and freshman center Christine Meier from the women’s water polo team were named September State Athlete of the Month Honorable Mention by the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) and the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).

A male and female athlete of the month are named to the CCCSIA/CCCAA state honor along with five honorable mention selections.
Aguirre was a scoring machine for the Vikings in his first month of collegiate play. For September, Aguirre totaled eight goals and three assists for 19 points over seven games. Aguirre began the season scoring goals in six consecutive games. On September 3 against Orange Coast College, Aguirre scored three goals over a 10-minute span to lead LBCC to a 3-1 win.
The men's soccer team currently holds a 4-3-4 overall record and is 1-1-2 in South Coast Conference play. LBCC plays at El Camino College in a SCC game on Tuesday at 4 pm.
During the month of September, Meier helped lead the women's water polo team to a perfect 11-0 record and a No. 2 state ranking. Over those 11 games, Meier scored 35 goals to lead LBCC. In September, Long Beach took first place at the Cypress College Invitational as well as the Mt. SAC Invitational.
The women's water polo team is currently 15-1 overall this season and lead the South Coast Conference with a 4-0 record. LBCC hosts Chaffey College on Wednesday at 4:15 pm in a conference game.
