Football: Four Vikings to continue careers at four-year institutions
Long Beach City College head coach Mike Reisbig has announced that four members of the 2009 Viking football team have signed a national letter of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions.
Long Beach City College head coach Mike Reisbig has announced that four members of the 2009 Viking football team have signed a national letter of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions.
Topping the list is All-American safety and Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year Genesis Fonoimoana. The 6-0, 200-pound sophomore out of Long Beach Poly High School will hit the field in 2010 for Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. ACU plays at the NCAA Division II level and is a member of the 13-team Lone Star Conference.
Defensive lineman Siaki Cravens will be taking his talents to the islands and is set to play for the University of Hawai'I in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The 6-3, 240-pound freshman came to LBCC from Temecula Valley High School and leaves after just one season.
Defensive lineman Lawrence Alai will head east to attend Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia. GSC is a NCAA Division II school and competes in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). Alai spent two seasons at LBCC after a stand out prep career at Elk Grove High School in Sacramento.
Rounding out the list is offensive lineman Vai Soon. The big 6-2, 310-pounder out of Kamehameha High School in Honolulu, Hawaii will play at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. ECSU is a NCAA Division II program and is a member of the 11-team Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
The 2010 LBCC football season is set to kickoff on Friday, September 13 when the Vikings travel to Golden West College for a 7 p.m. contest.
