Vikings Stun No. 1 Saddleback with 2-1 Home Victory

The No. 4-ranked Long Beach City College women's soccer team thrilled the home crowd on Tuesday afternoon with a 2-1 upset victory over No. 1 Saddleback College.

After a tightly contested first half, the Vikings finally broke through in the 71st minute when Lorena Moreno bent in a corner kick to give Long Beach the lead. Saddleback quickly answered in the 74th minute to tie the match, but the Vikings responded just three minutes later. Brisa Medina slotted home the game-winner off a setup from Charlotte Grace, sending the Viking faithful into celebration.

In goal, Mary Valenzuela was steady under pressure, recording three saves while keeping Saddleback from finding any late equalizer. Moreno led the attack with three shots, while Medina capitalized on her only attempt to seal the upset.

With the win, Long Beach defended its home field and handed the nation's top-ranked team its first loss of the year. The Vikings return to action at home on Friday, Sept. 26, when they host College of the Desert at 4 p.m.
