The Vikings women’s volleyball team dropped its home opener to MiraCosta College, falling in four sets.
The Long Beach City College women's volleyball team dropped its home opener to MiraCosta College, falling in four sets (25-16, 24-26, 25-27, 23-25) on Thursday night.
Sophomore middle blocker Ryleeh Tuaolo powered the offense with 18 kills to go along with three blocks and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Emeli Muagututi'a turned in a strong all-around performance with 27 assists, five kills, five aces, and nine digs, while returning South Coast Conference Freshman of the Year Tyreana Allen added eight kills, three aces, nine digs, and a block assist.
"We started off really strong and then got complacent," said head coach and director of volleyball operations Tyler Jackson. "We opened the door, and then MiraCosta started playing really well. At that point, we were seeing a whole different team on their behalf, and that's not something we were expecting. We can't just depend on a few of our girls. We have a lot of good pieces—we just need to figure it all out together."
The Vikings (0-1) will return to action this weekend at the NorCal vs. SoCal Showcase at Bakersfield College, beginning Friday, Aug. 29, with a noon matchup against Feather River College.
