The Long Beach City College women's soccer team bounced back in a big way with a commanding 6-1 victory over Mt. San Jacinto on Tuesday afternoon.
Midfielder Laila Alfadhiel opened the scoring for the Vikings before forward Kiana Moore doubled the lead with a header off a perfect cross from Maya Sanda. From there, forward Lorena Moreno stole the show, netting four consecutive goals to seal the win. Moreno's scoring surge was fueled by assists from defenders Charlotte Grace, Jocelyn Aquino, and Leila Rodriguez.
Goalkeeper Mary Valenzuela held strong in the net, recording a clean sheet with one save in 90 minutes of play.
Head Coach Jackie Garibay praised her team's performance, saying, "I am so proud of the girls. We really showed a reaction from our last game. I know what we are capable of—we are a great team, and I'm so happy we came out with this result."
Assistant Coach Rachel Schmid echoed those sentiments, adding, "I was really proud of the group today because we bounced back after a little bit of a letdown in our game on Tuesday. The focus was on effort, and I think you could see the team come together. We made some mistakes, but we scored six goals, and that's something to celebrate."
The Vikings return to action on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
