SCC Women's Basketball Title Streaks Continue For Mt. SAC, Long Beach: 6 In A Row Each
It was business as usual in South Coast Conference women's basketball in 2026 as state #1-ranked Mt. San Antonio and #16 Long Beach City Colleges captured the North and South Division titles for the sixth consecutive season.
The Mounties, the defending 3C2A state champions, are expected to repeat that feat after posting a 27-1 regular season record, a current 20-game win streak, while extending their SCC division victory string to 41 games dating back to 2020. Mt. SAC breezed their way to the '26 North crown at 8-0. The closest contest? Winning by "just" 22 points over #25 LA Trade-Tech on Jan. 30.
Mt. SAC was second in the state in defense and fourth in offense and it resulted in an average winning margin of 36.2 points per game.
Long Beach (19-9 overall) has an even longer streak of SCC South Division victories than Mt. SAC as it has won 43 in a row dating back also six years. The Vikings were 10-0 to secure the championship and only were threatened a bit in the first round of South plY by second-place LA Southwest, 81-75 and fifth-place El Camino in a 49-43.
In a crossover on Jan. 14, Mt. SAC hammered the Vikings, 99-37, to give LBCC its worst loss of the season.
To the victors go the spoils as the Mounties placed nine players on the All-SCC North Division Team, sweeping the big awards with Taliyah McFerson named Player of the Year, Tierra Taylor Freshman of the Year and head coach Brian Crichlow collecting his sixth straight Coach of the Year honors. The selecitions were made at Saturday's SCC Coaches Postseason Meeting held at Mt. SAC.
LA Trade-Tech (19-9) placed second in the SCC North at 4-4, knocked off by both third-place teams in Rio Hondo, 48-44, and Pasadena City, 54-47. Both of those squads were 3-5 in North play.
Long Beach also did well on the All-SCC South Division Team paced by Player of the Year in Mya Barnes and Dominic Freeman a Co-Coach of the Year (also won award in 2025) with Compton's Ollie Brent, a former COTY at Long Beach in both 2020 and 2023. Compton and LA Southwest each tied for second place behind the Vikings with 5-4 division marks and the Cougars were honored with the Freshman of the Year award in Rian Dillahunt. LBCC led all South teams with seven total selections.
In the South, Compton had a turnaround season to finish 12-13, LASW, last year did not field a team, was 12-15, LA Harbor also with a rebound year at 13-15 while both El Camino and Cerritos had rough seasons, both placing in a tie for fifth place.
