Vikings Stay Perfect in Conference, Improve to 16-9 Overall
The Long Beach City College women's basketball team kept its conference record unblemished Wednesday night, pulling away in the second half to defeat El Camino 58-45. With the victory, the Vikings improve to 16-9 overall and remain a perfect 7-0 in conference play.
LBCC carried a narrow 27-25 advantage into halftime before delivering a strong second-half performance. The Vikings outscored El Camino 31-20 after the break, tightening up defensively and executing efficiently on the offensive end to secure the double-digit win.
Sophomore Mya Barnes paced the Vikings with 17 points and six rebounds, leading a balanced scoring effort. Yesenia Garcia added 13 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, while Zoie Lamkin contributed 10 points. Amy Rubio chipped in eight points and provided steady leadership on both ends of the floor.
Long Beach controlled the boards with 30 total rebounds and made the most of its opportunities at the free-throw line, converting 15 attempts. The Vikings' defensive intensity and depth once again proved to be key down the stretch.
LBCC returns to the court Friday, February 13 at 7 p.m. at home, where the Vikings will look to extend their conference winning streak.
