Vikings Drop Game 1 of Super Regionals to El Camino, 3-2
The Vikings softball team came up just short in a 3-2 loss to El Camino in Game 1 of the 3C2A Super Regionals on Friday afternoon.
The Long Beach City College softball team came up just short in a 3-2 loss to El Camino in Game 1 of the 3C2A Super Regionals on Friday afternoon.
Vikings ace Hailey Harris (25-4) went the distance in the circle, striking out five while allowing nine hits and three earned runs. Despite a strong outing, she was tagged with the loss as the offense struggled to cash in on scoring opportunities.
El Camino jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a two-run home run. Long Beach responded in the third when left fielder Sienna Rievley crossed the plate on an RBI double by Anaya Togia, trimming the deficit to 2-1.
The Warriors added an insurance run in the fifth on an RBI single, making it 3-1. The Vikings answered in the bottom half of the inning as Anaya Togia scored one, but the rally fell short.
"Today was very uncharacteristic of us," said Head Coach and Director of Operations Megan Martinez. "We did not capitalize and score runners. We stranded almost 10 runners and normally we convert those to runs. I'm feeling optimistic about tomorrow, and I feel like it's going to be a long day because we're playing two!"
The Vikings will look to bounce back in Saturday's elimination games and keep their postseason hopes alive.
