The state-ranked No. 7 Vikings softball team continued its dominant run with a 5-2 win over PCC.
The state-ranked No. 7 Long Beach City College softball team continued its dominant run with a 5-2 win over Pasadena City College on Tuesday afternoon at the Viking Softball Complex. The win completed the season sweep over the Lancers and kept the Vikings rolling through South Coast Conference play, where they now sit at 20-2 and 31-4 overall.
"We've completed another conference sweep and we're excited just to keep the season rolling and looking forward to finishing strong," said Head Coach and Director of Softball Operations Megan Martinez.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Vikings quickly responded in the bottom half as Hailey Harris drove in Michelle Cervantes with an RBI single to tie things up.
With the game knotted at 1-1 through four innings, the Vikings broke through in the fifth. Pinch hitter Zara Mineo led off with a single and later came around to score on a sacrifice groundout by Alesa Gonzalez to give the Vikings their first lead of the game.
Pasadena briefly tied things up in the sixth, but the Vikings answered right back in the home half of the frame. Cervantes scored her second run of the day on a clutch RBI single by Anaya Togia, setting the table for a big inning. Harris followed with an RBI double to score Togia, and Madison Ramon capped the rally with a two-bagger of her own to plate Harris and put the game out of reach at 5-2.
In the circle, Adalise Valenzuela improved to 9-0 on the season after tossing six solid innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. Harris came in to close the door with a dominant seventh inning, striking out two to seal the win.
The Vikings will look to ride the momentum as they host LA Harbor on Thursday, April 17 at 3 p.m.
