Vikings Ride Big Sixth Inning to Defeat Cerritos, 7-5

The Long Beach City College baseball team used a strong middle-inning surge to defeat Cerritos College 7-5 on Tuesday afternoon in South Coast Conference action.
The Vikings struck first in the opening inning, plating a run to take an early 1-0 lead. After both teams were held scoreless over the next few frames, Long Beach added two more in the fifth to extend the advantage to 3-0.
Long Beach broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring four runs to build a commanding 7-0 lead. The Vikings capitalized on timely hitting and continued to apply pressure offensively, finishing the day with 10 hits.
Cerritos responded late, getting on the board with three runs in the seventh inning. The Falcons added two more in the ninth to cut the deficit to 7-5, but the Vikings were able to hold on and secure the conference victory.
At the plate, Myles Fendrick led the way with two hits, including a triple, while scoring twice and stealing two bases. Brody Cuellar drove in three runs to pace the offense, and Jose Perez added a pair of hits and an RBI.
The Long Beach pitching staff turned in a strong performance through six innings before navigating the late push from Cerritos, striking out 12 on the day.
The Vikings will return to action on Thursday, March 5 at Cerritos College, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
