The Long Beach City College baseball team outlasted East Los Angeles College in an 11-inning battle, securing a 5-4 walk-off victory at the LBCC Baseball Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings found themselves in a tight, back-and-forth contest all day, with both teams trading timely hits and missed opportunities. Long Beach struck first in the third inning when center fielder Myles Fendrick delivered an RBI hit to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. They added another run in the fifth to extend the advantage to 2-0.
East Los Angeles responded in the top of the fifth, plating two runs to even the score. From there, the game settled into a pitching duel before both teams came alive again late. The Vikings reclaimed the lead in the ninth, capitalizing on key at-bats from the middle of the lineup to go up 4-2.
However, East Los Angeles answered right back in the top half of the inning, scoring two runs to tie the game and force extra innings.
Long Beach stayed composed and continued to apply pressure offensively, finishing the game with 14 hits. In the bottom of the 11th, the Vikings finally broke through, pushing across the winning run to secure the 5-4 victory.
At the plate, Fendrick led the way by reaching base four times and driving in a run. Garret Rodriguez added two RBIs, while Erick Espinoza, Eshua Desai, Enrique Lopez, and Justin Holt each contributed multiple hits in a balanced offensive effort.
On the mound, Long Beach used a mix of arms to navigate the extra-inning contest. Anthony Buenaseda got the start, allowing two runs over 5.1 innings while striking out five. The bullpen held strong down the stretch, with key scoreless innings in extras to give the offense a chance to walk it off.
The Vikings showed resilience throughout, responding each time East Los Angeles threatened and ultimately delivering in the clutch to earn the conference win.
Long Beach will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup at Santa Ana on Tuesday, March 17th, at 2:00 PM.
