Track and Field: Vikings earn eight season-best marks at Pasadena Invitational
The Long Beach City College track and field team totaled eight season-best marks as well as 11 top-three finishes at the Pasadena Invitational on Saturday at Pasadena City College.
The Long Beach City College track and field team totaled eight season-best marks as well as 11 top-three finishes at the Pasadena Invitational on Saturday at Pasadena City College.
Leading the way for the LBCC women was freshman Ashley Craddock. She ran a season-best 12.38 in the 100 meters for second place and took third in the 200 at 25.62.
Craddock teamed with freshman Jessica Sheffield, sophomore Stephanique Brown, and sophomore Phillisha Nunley to run a season-best 48.86 in the 4x100 meter relay for second place. The 4x400 relay squad of Craddock, Sheffield, Nunley, and freshman Valerie Nettles took third place with a season-best time of 4:12.77.
Nunley also had a busy day as she added a 5th place finish in the 100 at 12.89 and was sixth in the 200 with a time of 26.29.
Sophomore Carissa Kildall ran a pair of good races, taking third in the 1500 meters (5:21.18) and fifth in the 800 (2:38.26).
Freshman Mary Onuohah was eighth in the shot put with a season-best toss of 9.81 meters.
On the men's side, sophomore Kunhee Bang had an impressive day in jumps. He was second overall in both the long jump (23-5, season best) and triple jump (45-4) but was first among community college athletes.
Freshman Trevon Harris finished fourth in the 800 with a season-best time of 2:01.28. Not far behind was freshman Dakota Beavers in fifth at 2:01.52.
Freshman Anthony Fierros ran a season-best 16:26.12 in the 5000 for fourth place and added a fourth-place finish in the 1500 at 4:19.40.
The 4x100 relay team of freshmen Kiree Jabril, Daveon Collins, Derek Speight, and sophomore Jonathan Sanders cruised to second place with a time of 42.02. The 4x400 squad of Collins, Jabril, Sanders, and freshman Roosevelt Payne was third with 3:20.97.
Collins also added a third-place finish in the 200 at 21.91 and was sixth in the 100 with a time of 10.94. Sanders earned a second-place finish in the 400 hurdles at 54.58.
The LBCC track and field team returns to action on Friday (Apr 8) when it will compete at the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersey Invitational. LBCC will also be in action on Saturday (Apr 9) at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays.
