Vikings Win, Secure First Round Bye in South Coast Tournament

With a dominant game versus Rio Hondo, holding the Roadrunners to only two shots on goal the entire game, the Vikings won 2-0 to finish South Coast play with a 7-1-1 record. The win  secured a #2 seed and bye on Friday for the South Coast Tournament. 

Rio Hondo played a very defensive game. Long Beach was finally able to break them in the 37th minute when Josh Grado scored from outside of the box off of an assist from Cesar Soranzo. The score would remain 1-0 going into the second half which saw the Vikings just missing out on scoring opportunities. Fabio Ardizzoia made a great save in minute 72 to keep the lead. In the 89th minute, Long Beach would score their second goal to clinch the game when Kuliano Doty-Navarro found Asael Sales on a through ball, who then calmly beat the keeper. The defensive back line of Joshua Penazola, Andrew Zevallos, Robert Orozco and Danny Arreola were very solid in the shutout. 

Long Beach had their best overall conference record in coach Reyes tenure. They will play next on Monday, October 10th, at LBCC, at a time and versus an opponent to be determined.
