The Long Beach City College men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought match to Los Angeles City College, falling 1–0 at home on Friday afternoon.
The contest was decided early when Los Angeles City's Jorge Gomez converted a penalty kick in the 15th minute, giving the Cubs the lone goal of the match. Despite the early setback, the Vikings (5–5–3, 3–1–0 conference) battled back with several scoring opportunities but couldn't find the equalizer.
Fabio Ardizzoia made four saves in goal to keep Long Beach within striking distance, while Cesar Garcia Solorzano generated two shots on target to lead the Viking attack. Jiro Uchida and Joshua Penaloza also contributed chances from midfield.
Long Beach tightened up defensively in the second half, limiting L.A. City to just five shots after the break, but a strong performance from opposing goalkeeper kept the Vikings out of the net.
The loss snaps the Vikings' three-match unbeaten streak in conference play.
Long Beach will look to bounce back when they travel to Compton on Tuesday, October 21, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.
