Vikings Fall in Tight Battle to Allan Hancock, 23-21

The Long Beach City College football team came up just short on Saturday afternoon, falling 23-21 at home to Allan Hancock College.
The Vikings struck first with a methodical 12-play, 85-yard drive capped by a six-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Allen Fernett to Owen Tomich. Tomich was a reliable target throughout the game, finishing with a team-high 12 receptions for 115 yards and a score.
Fernett added a second touchdown in the second quarter, connecting with Steewell Leboucher on a 20-yard strike to give Long Beach a 14-7 advantage. However, the Bulldogs answered quickly and carried momentum into the second half.
Allan Hancock took control in the third quarter, scoring 10 unanswered points to build a 23-14 lead. Long Beach fought back in the fourth when quarterback Wyatt McCauley came off the bench to deliver a 41-yard touchdown strike to Ike White, trimming the deficit to 23-21. Despite the late push, the Vikings were unable to capitalize on their final opportunities.
McCauley finished with 169 yards on 12-of-20 passing with one touchdown, while Fernett completed 19-of-26 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Alex Koulovatos, Noah Mallon, Leboucher, and Knockia Wynter each recorded eight total tackles, while Leboucher also broke up two passes and added a tackle for loss.
The Vikings will look to bounce back when they return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. at Citrus College.
