The 2024–25 academic year has marked a historic chapter for Long Beach City College's (LBCC) Esports Program, with a remarkable string of firsts propelling the Vikings into the national spotlight.
In a groundbreaking move, the college unveiled its state-of-the-art esports arena earlier this year, setting the stage for what would become a season of growth, recognition, and competitive excellence. The momentum continued as LBCC was selected to host the prestigious West-Coast NAECAD Coaching Clinic, solidifying its position as a hub for collegiate esports leadership and development.
Competitive milestones followed swiftly. The Vikings' Call of Duty team earned promotion to the elite Super-8 Conference, joining the ranks of top-tier programs in the country. Their journey culminated with an appearance in the NACE National Esports Finals, where the team demonstrated skill and tenacity on the national stage.
Capping off the banner year, LBCC was nominated for Best Emerging Program of the Year—an accolade recognizing innovation, impact, and rapid growth in the collegiate esports landscape.
"A heartfelt thank you to NACE, the dedicated committees, coaches, and directors in higher education esports. Your collective guidance has significantly influenced our program. Being nominated is a truly humbling acknowledgment, and we are excited to foster stronger connections with each of you in the future. To our fellow finalists, it is a privilege to stand beside you as an Emerging Program. Your exceptional work is truly praiseworthy. Our deepest gratitude." said Gabe Giangualano, Director of LBCC Esports.
As the program continues to grow in visibility and success, LBCC is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the competitive esports circuit.
The NACE Awards will take place at the University of Texas at Dallas, July 23-25, 2025.
