Women’s Water Polo: Long Beach suffers narrow 10-8 SCC loss to Chaffey
The No. 2 state-ranked Long Beach City College women’s water polo team fell by a final score of 10-8 to No. 7 Chaffey College in a South Coast Conference game on Wednesday.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 15-2 overall and puts them in a three-way tie for first place in the conference standings with Chaffey and Cerritos at 4-1.
Chaffey held a slim 3-2 lead after the first quarter and was up 5-4 in the second before LBCC freshman Allison Zell tied up the game with her goal with 52 seconds left in the half.
Chaffey's Dallen Coulter scored a pair of goals to put the Panthers up 7-5 in the third quarter before the Vikings once again rallied to tie it. Freshman Christine Meier found the back of the goal at the 2:53 mark and freshman Lauren Sweet scored the equalizer with 17 seconds left.
But with just eight seconds left in the third, Miranda Furuto scored to give the Panthers the lead they wouldn't relinquish.
In the fourth, Gabi Kredel gave Chaffey some room with goals at the 6:22 and 3:02 mark. Sophomore Sarah Agopian gave Long Beach some last moment hope with a goal with 43 seconds left, but the Vikings couldn't convert on their final possessions.
Sweet led the Vikings with three goals while Zell added two.
Coulter led Chaffey (13-4 overall, 4-1 SCC) with three goals.
The LBCC women return to action on Friday (Oct. 15) when they will compete at the Golden West College mini tournament. On Saturday (Oct. 16), the Vikings will hold the annual alumni game at LBCC at 3 pm.
