The loss dropped Long Beach to 8-8-3 overall and 6-5-1 in the SCC while El Camino improved to 10-6-3 and 5-4-3 in conference play.
The first half was scoreless as both teams battled for control with most play at midfield. The squads combined for just seven shots (LBCC 4, ECC 3) in the opening 45 minutes.
El Camino finally broke through for the lone goal midway in the second half. Justine Zavala's cross pass from the right corner found Shannon Hornbeck in front of the net. She slipped her shot past LBCC goalie Sara Thatcher for the eventual game-winning goal in the 63rd minute.
LBCC's best chance at a score came early in the second. In the 52nd minute, freshman Denise Martinez' breakaway shot sailed just wide of the top right corner of the goal.
Thatcher and El Camino goalie Alicia Sala were both credited with one save.
The Long Beach women return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 9) when it travels to Mt. San Antonio College for a 5 pm conference match.
