Softball: Contreras named All-SoCal, Vikings earn four All-South Coast Conference postseason honors
Sophomore first baseman Michelle Contreras (Norwalk HS) has been named to the All-Southern California team as well as first-team All-South Coast Conference to top a list of five Long Beach City College softball postseason honors.
Sophomore first baseman Michelle Contreras (Norwalk HS) has been named to the All-Southern California team as well as first-team All-South Coast Conference to top a list of five Long Beach City College softball postseason honors.
Contreras led Long Beach in nearly every offensive category this season. Overall, she hit .421 and totaled 51 hits, 48 runs, 13 doubles, five triples, six homeruns, and 51 RBI. She was also perfect in the field, committing zero errors in 249 chances at first base.
In SCC play, Contreras compiled a .444 batting average and led the conference with 33 RBI.
Earning second-team All-SCC honors were sophomore shortstop Melissa Schaefer (El Segundo HS), sophomore outfielder Karina Veit (Newport Harbor HS), and sophomore catcher/outfielder Brittney Holden (Big Bear HS).
The Vikings take a 23-15-1 overall record into their Southern California Regional playoff series at Palomar College. Game 1 of the series is set for Saturday (May 6) at 4:30 pm. Game 2 is Sunday (May 7) at 12 pm, with Game 3 if necessary to follow at 2 pm.
