Softball: Missed opportunities hurt No. 20 Long Beach in 3-0 loss to East LA

The Vikings stranded 10 runners on base in the contest and managed just five hits off East LA starting pitcher Miranda Chaidez.
Long Beach left the bases loaded in the fourth and threatened late with runners on second and third with one out in the seventh, but couldn't capitalize.
East LA (5-4-1, 2-2 SCC) got a RBI double from Rhea Cugglietta in the top of the first and rallied for two runs in the second thanks to consecutive doubles by Elizabeth Lopez and Monica Robles and a pair of LBCC errors.
LBCC freshman Angela Arias (Western HS) gave up five hits over the first two innings, but settled down as the game went on. Arias picked up the loss after allowing nine hits and three runs to drop her record to 5-4.
Freshman center fielder Danielle Hannan (El Segundo HS) went 2 for 4 to lead Long Beach at the plate.
Chaidez earned the win after scattering four hits over six innings. Janessa Martinez picked up the save with a scoreless seventh.
Long Beach returns to action on Thursday (Mar. 3) when it hosts cross-town rival Cerritos College in a 3 p.m. SCC game.
