Men’s Volleyball: Long Beach rolls to home sweep over San Diego Mesa

The Long Beach City College men's volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep over visiting San Diego Mesa College on Tuesday night at LBCC.  The Vikings won their final non-conference match by scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-20 for their fourth straight win of the season.  

Sophomore middle blocker Kris Johnson (Lakewood HS) led the Vikings with 8 kills, 4 blocks, and 3 aces. Sophomore outside hitter Matt Black (Downey HS) added 7 kills, 3 blocks, and an ace. Freshman middle blocker Aniefre Etim-Thomas (Wilson HS) chipped in with 6 kills and 2 blocks, while sophomore setter Chris Austin (Henderson, NV) posted 36 assists and 4 blocks.

"Tonight was a good way to close out the non-conference schedule," said LBCC head coach Randy Totorp. "We stumbled earlier this season losing some matches we could have won, but I feel like we are headed back in the right direction."

Long Beach is 5-2 overall as it enters Western State Conference play on Wednesday (Mar 9) with a 6 p.m. match at Santa Monica College.

With the loss, San Diego Mesa dropped to 0-8 overall.
