The Long Beach City College men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday at LBCC.
The loss snapped the Vikings' four-game unbeaten streak and dropped Long Beach to 6-4-5 overall and 3-2-3 in the SCC.
Harbor wasted little time in getting on the board. Alfonso Fombona's breakaway goal in the third minute gave the Seahawks a lead they wouldn't give up.
Long Beach nearly tied the game in the 48th minute when freshman Andrew Gomez' hard shot nailed the left post.
The score remained 1-0 until midway in the second. Johnny Aleman's goal in the 65th minute gave Harbor some breathing room.
But two minutes later, the Vikings showed late life thanks to a goal from sophomore Esron Manzanarez off the pass from sophomore Jordan Urbany in the 67th minute. Despite pulling goalie Luis Romero upfield over the final moments, the Vikings couldn't score the equalizer.
Romero was credited with one save for Long Beach. Greg Williams posted three saves in goal for Harbor (6-2-6, 3-0-5 SCC) and Jorge Cervantes had two assists.
The Long Beach men return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 26) when they travel to face Pasadena City College in a 3 pm SCC game.
