Men’s Soccer: Vikings earn 1-1 conference draw vs. Pasadena

Pasadena scored early before Long Beach finally posted the equalizer midway through the second half.
Pasadena controlled the tempo of the game early on and got on the board first thanks to a breakaway goal from Rimar Daisley-West in the 18th minute.
PCC kept the Viking scoring chances to a minimum in the first half, but after the break Long Beach came out with a different intensity level.
The Vikings continued to drive the ball deep into the Pasadena back field and it finally paid off in the 58th minute. A hand ball inside the penalty box area was called on the Lancers and a penalty kick was awarded to LBCC.
Freshman Walter Cannavina sent his shot to the top left corner past a diving Jorge Cervantes of Pasadena to tie the game.
The teams continued to deny each other on scoring chances. But the Vikings came up with the biggest save in the 75th minute. PCC's Derek Olson broke free past LBCC goalie Luis Romero but his shot was stopped by LBCC's defender Richard Huezo from just outside the net to keep the score tied.
Romero closed the game with three saves in the second half, while Jorge Beccera totaled two saves in the first.
Cervantes was credited with two saves for the Lancers (4-1-3 overall, 1-0-1 SCC).
With the tie, Long Beach moved its record to 3-2-4 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play. The Long Beach men return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 5) when they travel to East Los Angeles College for a 4 p.m. SCC game.
