Former LBCC standout Al Dorsey returns for his fourth season as
an assistant coach in 2012. Dorsey will coach the Vikings’
linebackers.
Dorsey was a two-year starter for the Vikings and helped lead his
team to the 1995 national championship. As a sophomore, Dorsey was
named the Mission Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was a
first-team All-American selection.
After receiving his AA degree, Dorsey transferred to the
University of California (Berkeley) and also started for two
seasons at Cal. As a senior, Dorsey earned Pacific-10 Conference
(PAC-10) Honorable Mention honors and was invited to play in the
Senior Hula Bowl in Hawaii.
Dorsey played professionally for the Los Angeles Avengers of the
Arena Football League for two seasons before beginning his coaching
career.
Dorsey served as defensive coordinator at Hollywood High School,
Washington Prep, and New Designs Charter before joining the
coaching staff at nearby USC. He spent four seasons at USC coaching
All-Americans on the offensive and defensive line. His squads went
on to win three Rose Bowl championships.
Dorsey attended Palm Springs High School and earned All-City
honors prior to his arrival at LBCC. He earned his BA degree from
Cal and is currently working on his master’s of science
degree in human performance and sport. Dorsey is also a 2010
inductee into the Long Beach City College Hall of Champions.
