Steven Gallardo - Baseball
Steven Gallardo, a sophomore right-handed starting pitcher for Long Beach City College, threw a 10-inning, no-hitter on April 27 over Compton College in a 1-0 South Coast Conference win at LBCC's Joe Hicks Memorial Field. It was the first no-hitter in school history.
Gallardo, originally out of Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, struck out 17 batters and allowed just a walk and a hit batter in his final start of the season and LBCC career. He threw 112 pitches and retired the first 14 batters he faced. Gallardo struck out the side in the top of the 10th inning before the Vikings rallied for the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
Over three starts during April, Gallardo allowed just two earned
runs (0.72 ERA) and struck out 35 batters over 25 innings. He also
had a 12 strikeout performance against Pasadena City College on
April 10.
Gallardo was the 2011 South Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year
and a first-team all-conference selection in 2012. He closed this
season with a 6-4 overall record and 2.34 ERA. Gallardo ranked
second in the state with 98 strikeouts over 77 innings.
